DSC02713 | Near the top (puff, puff) of the inclined plane. On the left is the stone track, upon which the rails were mounted. Wood was later used to support the rails, which was easier to adjust when the stones moved around. On the right is the heavy wound metal cable used to pull the boats. This replace rope, which wore out too quicky, of course. This is the Roebling-invented wound metal cable--the same stuff used to support the Brooklyn Bridge. | |
